Goodhart Acquisitions

Location: 5 miles east of Diamond Valley Lake

RCA Area: Cactus Valley/Goodhart, Rough Step Area 4

Size: 2,334.26 acres

Plant communities: chaparral, coastal sage scrub, grasslands, and woodland forest.

Animal species observed: arroyo toad, Bell’s sage sparrow, cactus wren, loggerhead shrike, Quino checkerspot butterfly, bobcat, Los Angeles pocket mouse, mountain lion, and Stephens’ kangaroo rat.

Importance:
Beginning with a 909-acre acquisition in 2005, Goodhart has grown to over 2,300 acres from six total acquisitions. The Goodhart property is home to over 75 plants and animal species. The property provides an important linkage for species that travel between Wilson Valley and the San Bernardino National Forest.

Wildlife and habitat value:
The Goodhart acquisition is providing an important connection between the San Bernardino National Forest lands to the east and an eventual link to the Southwestern Riverside County Multi-species Reserve south of Diamond Valley Lake.
